Experience Fall in North Dakota

September means different things to different people. It’s a time to celebrate the bountiful harvest that’s coming to a close, reminisce with friends and neighbors at the end of another summer and reflect on our lives and how they’ve been affected after the events of September 11, 2001.
September is a time when many small communities come together to celebrate another bountiful harvest. Edgeley, Hazen, Abercrombie, Casselton and Enderlin host festivals in September, and Grand Forks caps the week-long Potato Bowl with a University of North Dakota football game. And you’re sure to find something unique and food galore at Bismarck’s Downtown Street Fair.
Few things are more colorful than outfits worn by Native American and Scandinavian dancers. Two of the largest events in the nation celebrate the pageantry of these unique cultures in North Dakota. The United Tribes International Powwow brings dancers and singers from around the world to Bismarck, while Minot becomes the center of the Scandinavian universe during Norsk Høstfest.
The rhythmic pumping of the old steam engines takes people back to a time when the harvest was as much manual labor as it was automated. People still gather to see how it was done in days gone by at events like the Central North Dakota Steam Threshers Reunion at New Rockford, the Stump Lake Village Threshing Bee at Pekin and Sodbuster Days Fall Harvest at Fort Ransom. Cavalier will host a Pioneer Machinery and Tractor Trek.  Each event has ongoing demonstrations, food and displays of how prairie folk got things done generations ago,

Everybody remembers where they were on that fateful day 10 years ago. Along with other memorial services in North Dakota, the International Peace Garden in Dunseith is planning a 911 Memorial ceremony that includes dignitaries, first responders, military and area bands.
